The mandate was to prepare training and a guide for the identification and characterization of hydromorphic soils. The training was then presented to ABQ members on five occasions.
The training included a theoretical section in the morning and a practical section in the afternoon.
The theoretical section included an introduction to landscapes and surface deposits as well as criteria for identifying hydromorphic soils according to the ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MELCC) inventory sheet. In the afternoon, a field trip allowed the theoretical concepts learned in the morning to be applied in a concrete way.
This training required an extensive literature review to develop the training guide and the PowerPoint presentation. The training was practice-oriented and allows biologists to integrate soil characterization into their field work and analysis. This knowledge is now essential for anyone who needs to conduct wetland inventories in accordance with MELCC expectations.
