Preparation and presentation of a training course on wetland soils

Association des biologistes du Québec (ABQ) – 2018-2021

Through the Association des biologistes du Québec (ABQ), T2 Environnement has been offering two training courses since 2018 on wetland soils and on the integration of abiotic components into inventory efforts. More than 200 biologists and other environmental experts have been trained thus far.

The training on wetland soils (Soil level 1) includes an online theoretical portion introducing the reading of landscapes and surface deposits as well as understanding the criteria for identifying hydromorphic soils. The practical portion takes place in wetlands where participants are invited to apply theoretical concepts under the supervision of the trainer.

The training on the inventory of the abiotic components of an ecosystem (soils and surface deposits Level 2) takes place entirely in the field and pushes the participants to read the landscape to properly identify the limits between two ecosystems, to better understand spatial distribution of soils and surface deposits and use the diagnostic tools at their disposal to determine soil drainage, texture and structure, and humus types.
