ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERIZATION STUDY OF LOCAS ISLAND ON THE TERRITORY OF THE CITY OF LAVAL

2021-2022

An exhaustive ecological characterization of Locas Island (25ha), on the Mille Îles River in Laval, was carried out as part of a legal dispute. Wet and water environments and protected terrestrial environments (exceptional forest ecosystems) were characterized and recorded to the nearest centimeter (GPS RTK) by a surveyor. In total, more than 70 inventory stations were carried out. The inventory of floral species with a precarious status was also carried out throughout the island. Experimental fishing and limnological inventories were carried out in two ponds. The characterization of the fish habitat, coastline and banks was finally carried out for the sector bordering the Mille Îles River.

A detailed report with legal significance was prepared for the city and its lawyers. This included a detailed description of all terrestrial, wet and water ecosystems as well as maps and precise surface area calculations.
