Did you know that we had several carnivorous plants in Quebec?<\/p>\n

Here is one called the northern pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea).<\/em> The preys (flies and other small insects) are attracted by the colours of the pitcher plant and settle on it. The interior of the plant is covered with wax making the walls slippery, which lead the insects to fall inside the plant and drown in the water at the bottom of the urn. This is where the pitcher plant will digest its prey. The northern pitcher plant is found in Quebec’s acidic wetlands such as peat bogs.<\/p>\n
